From A Royal Nut To A Luxurious Cup - 5 Purely Perfect Pistachio Coffee Recipes

9 min read MAR 30, 2024

Abundantly creamy, mildly nutty, and slightly sweet with a buttery finish…this is pistachio coffee.

Sure, coffee in and of itself is bold, smooth, and delicious, but the addition of pistachio can set your brew apart in a luxurious, even royal, way.

You see, legend has it that the queen of Sheba once made a proclamation, declaring pistachios as only fit for royalty, even outlawing this precious nut amongst commoners.

And, the Chinese revere the pistachio as a happy nut due to its appearance, which sometimes resembles a wide smile where the shell opens to reveal the green-hued nut inside.

Pistachios are even considered a fitting gift in celebration of the Chinese New Year as they symbolize health, happiness, and good fortune.

In ancient Persia, or modern-day Iran, those who owned pistachio groves were considered to be of high status since possessing an abundance of these precious nuts signified that such families were overwhelmingly rich.

And, in Biblical times, pistachios were not only synonymous with riches but eventually became a symbol of generosity and forgiveness as well.

Today, pistachios are still considered an expensive, or fancy, nut due to their price point, and in some European countries, they are specifically reserved for special occasions and specialty desserts.

But, for those of us in the United States, pistachios have become a common treat, despite their price point and luxurious nature, with Americans consuming more of these delicious nuts than the global average.

Why detail each of these fun facts? Because we love pistachios, of course!

And, between their popularity in the states, their esteem throughout history, luxurious nature, and the fact that they’re incredibly delicious, what better way to celebrate the rich taste and nature of pistachios than by enjoying this nut’s fabulous flavor in a smooth and rich cup of coffee?

So, that’s how we’ll be using the remainder of our time here today…sharing recipes that allow you to best enjoy buttery, creamy, slightly sweet Lifeboost Pistachio Coffee in a variety of ways - hot, iced, and more!

5 Purely Perfect Pistachio Coffee Recipes

1- We Love Pistachio A Latte

If you’ve gotta lotta love for this luxurious nut, you’ll love this latte!

Here you’ll get to sport your chef’s hat, real or metaphorical, and whip up some delicious pistachio flavored coffee syrup to enhance the existing creamy, buttery, nutty, and sweet flavors already echoing throughout this flavored brew.

This, combined with a homemade brown butter cookie topping, and you’ll be hooked after one sip!

*Note: the recipe for pistachio syrup allows for the use of salted or unsalted pistachios. Keep in mind that salted pistachios will produce a noticeably salty taste in the syrup. To avoid this, simply use unsalted nuts.

Ingredients

  • 4 ounces strongly brewed Lifeboost Pistachio Coffee
  • 6 ounces milk (your choice of dairy or non dairy)
  • 2-3 tablespoons pistachio syrup (see recipe below)
  • ¼ cup milk (for frothing)
  • Brown butter cookie topping, optional (see recipe below)

Instructions

  • Add 6 ounces of milk to a small saucepan and heat over low-medium heat just until completely warmed throughout.
  • Strongly brew coffee and pour into a large mug.
  • Add warmed milk and pistachio syrup into the prepared coffee and stir to combine.
  • Add ¼ cup of milk to an electric frother and froth on the heated setting.
  • Pour heated milk foam on top of the prepared latte, drizzle with brown butter cookie topping, and enjoy!

**If you’d like to make an iced version of this latte, simply substitute cold brew for the strongly brewed hot coffee. Then, omit the warming step for the milk, simply adding it cold to your brew along with the pistachio syrup.
Froth ¼ cup of cold milk in an electric frother on the cold setting to top your brew, and use the brown butter cookie topping as listed in the recipe.

Homemade Pistachio Syrup

  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup organic cane sugar
  • 1 cup finely chopped pistachios (salted or non salted)

Add water, sugar, and chopped pistachios to a medium sized saucepan and place over medium-high heat, bringing the mixture to a boil.

Once boiling, reduce the heat and allow the mixture to simmer for approximately ten minutes or until it has thickened slightly.

After the mixture has thickened, strain the syrup (to remove the chopped pistachios) into a glass jar. Allow the mixture to cool slightly, then store the syrup in the refrigerator until ready to use. (Keep in mind, the mixture will continue to thicken as it cools.)

Homemade Brown Butter Cookie Topping

  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • ½ tablespoon brown sugar
  • Pinch of salt

Add butter to a small saucepan and heat over medium heat, stirring constantly as the butter melts. Once the butter melts, within a minute or so it should start to bubble. At this point you will begin to notice small brown flecks in the pan, and you should notice a slightly nutty smell. This is when you can remove the pan from the heat and begin to stir in the pinch of salt and brown sugar.

Continue stirring for roughly 30 seconds, until the sugar is completely incorporated. Once the sugar is fully melted into the brown butter, it’s ready to use for topping the latte.

2- Creamy Green Cup

Have you ever tried pistachio cream or pistachio butter?

Similar to the creamy sweetness of chocolate hazelnut spread, minus the chocolate of course, pistachio butter can be used as a spreadable treat or to thicken and creamily enhance your pistachio flavored coffee!

Technically this recipe does call for pistachio cream, and if you can find it, I’d certainly opt for this selection. However, if you’re having trouble finding the cream, you can also use pistachio butter in this recipe, similar to how you’d use Nutella to amp up the flavor of any unique coffee creation.

Ingredients

  • 8 ounces Lifeboost Pistachio Coffee (hot or cold brewed…your choice)
  • 1-2 tablespoons pistachio syrup (see homemade option listed within the recipe above)
  • 6 ounces pistachio milk
  • 2 teaspoons pistachio cream
  • Ice (if making cold, omit for hot option)

Instructions

To make hot:

  • Brew hot coffee into your favorite mug. Stir in pistachio cream and pistachio syrup, then set aside.
  • Add pistachio milk to a small saucepan and heat over low-medium heat until warm.
  • Add warmed milk to prepared coffee, stir, and enjoy!

To make iced:

  • Smear pistachio cream along the inside of a tall glass.
  • Fill the glass with ice, then add cold brew, pistachio syrup, and pistachio milk.
  • Stir all ingredients in the glass gently, then enjoy!

3- Pistachio Joe

The addition of pistachio to your ordinary cup of joe can take your brew to new buttery, creamy, and delicious heights, and that sounds like a powerful transformation.

But, when you use Lifeboost Pistachio Coffee, this upgrade is practically effortless!

This recipe utilizes our pistachio flavored coffee, pistachio milk, and a few other very simple ingredients, but the result is anything but ordinary!

And, if you’re like me, this simple concoction will immediately make its way into your regular rotation. Yum!

*Note: This recipe calls for a pistachio milk foam topper for your brew. And, in the original recipe below you’ll see that you sweeten the foam topper instead of the coffee. Many enjoy a bold brew slowly sipped through a sweetened topper like this, but if you prefer your coffee a little on the sweet side, I recommend swapping the sweetness here, including the honey in your coffee instead of the pistachio milk which will rest atop the brew.

Ingredients

  • 8 ounces freshly brewed Lifeboost Pistachio Coffee
  • 1 teaspoon local raw honey
  • ¼ cup pistachio milk

Instructions

  • Brew coffee into your favorite mug and set aside.
  • Pour pistachio milk into a small glass. Add honey and stir until combined.
  • Add sweetened pistachio milk to an electric frother and froth on the warm setting.
  • Pour heated, sweetened pistachio milk foam on top of your brew, and enjoy!

4- Pistachio Latte Milkshake

Raise your hand if you love a good, cold, creamy milkshake on a hot day?

Now, raise your hand if you prefer adding a touch of coffee to your milkshake to take that cold and creamy treat to the next level?

Adding coffee to a traditional vanilla or chocolate milkshake makes for an amazing upgrade, but adding coffee to a pistachio gelato based milkshake isn’t simply unique…it’s phenomenal!

So, get ready to treat your tastebuds, because this milkshake not only uses pistachio and espresso gelatos, but it also incorporates the smooth, rich, and slightly sweet flavors in our Pistachio Coffee as well!

**If you can’t find these gelato flavors, you can simply use pistachio and espresso (or coffee) ice cream to substitute.

Ingredients

  • 4 ounces cold brewed Lifeboost Pistachio Coffee
  • ¾ cup pistachio gelato
  • ½ cup espresso gelato
  • 4 ounces half and half
  • Whipped cream, optional for topping
  • Crushed pistachios, optional for topping

Instructions

  • Add cold brew, half and half, and gelato to a blender and blend until smooth.
  • Add blended mixture to a tall glass, top with whipped cream and a sprinkle of crushed pistachios, and enjoy!

**Note: if you don’t have the ingredients to make this shake in its entirety, a pistachio affogato would also be an incredible treat! To make one, you simply add a decent sized scoop of pistachio ice cream or gelato to a large mug, then top with 4-6 ounces of freshly brewed Lifeboost Pistachio Coffee. Serve with a spoon, and enjoy!

5- Perk Up With Pistachio

This latte combines both brewed coffee and espresso, similar to what is known as a red eye, but with added pistachio flavor and texture.

So, when your mornings are rushed after a night when sleep time was slim, this latte can provide an extra boost to please your palate and increase your energy levels.

*This recipe calls for pistachio paste. If you cannot find pistachio paste, you can easily substitute pistachio butter in its place.

Ingredients

  • 1 ounce (or one pulled shot) Lifeboost Espresso Coffee
  • 6 ounces freshly brewed Lifeboost Pistachio Coffee
  • 1 tablespoon pistachio paste
  • 1 tablespoon sweetened condensed milk
  • 6 ounces milk (dairy or non dairy)
  • Whipped cream, optional for topping

Instructions

  • Add milk to a small saucepan and heat over medium heat until warmed through (be careful not to scorch, but you do want this decently hot to dissolve the condensed milk and pistachio paste).
  • Stir pistachio paste and sweetened condensed milk into the warmed milk in the saucepan, then froth with a handheld frother until slightly smooth and frothy. You won’t be making a full blown foam here, but you want to froth at least a little bit to enhance the thickness of the latte overall.
  • Add brewed coffee and espresso to your favorite mug, then stir in slightly frothed, flavored, milk.
  • Top your latte with a bit of whipped cream, if desired, and enjoy!
