What this article covers:

What is an Iced Latte Macchiato?

Before we add the ice, we’ll look at what a normal latte macchiato is all about.

“Macchiato” directly translates to marked or stained. The milk is poured in first, then the espresso; the stain left behind on top of it is why it’s called that.

An iced latte macchiato is served in a tall glass and it looks quite aesthetic with its layers of foam, espresso, and milk. The foam rests on top with the espresso right under it, and the milk at the bottom. Now just add ice and voilà, iced latte macchiato.

Just like the regular latte macchiato, it needs to be stirred before you can drink it, otherwise, you’ll be getting all the foam first. Unless that’s what you prefer then go ahead.

We won’t judge you, but the barista might.

We’re eager to tell you what’s in an iced caramel macchiato, so here’s an awesome recipe that’s perfect for making a macchiato at home

You’ll need half a cup of your choice between either whole or 2% milk and two shots of espresso. Last of all, some ice cubes.

Process

First thing’s first, you need to have a way of frothing your milk. Whether it’s with a frothing wand, espresso coffee machine, or a handheld frother. No fancy gadgets? No problem, as you can also whisk the milk by hand.

Preparing your iced latte macchiato can be easy, especially with an espresso machine. Alternatively, you can always use a Moka pot or a French press to make some and still get the desired taste.

The espresso can be made with either dark roasted coffee beans for a stronger taste or light roast coffee beans for a smoother taste.

While the traditional latte macchiato starts with milk first, we want ours to be iced so, we’ll add the ice cubes as the first step.

We recommend using a tall coffee glass, so you can really see the layers forming but it’s okay if you’d rather use a mug, too.

Pour your frothed milk into your glass, saving a tablespoon of froth for after the espresso. Let the milk settle for a few seconds, and then we can add the espresso.

Here’s where the magic happens. Pour the espresso down the side of the glass, this is what makes that beautiful layer above the milk.

You can add that tablespoon of froth you saved from earlier. You can pour it on top or go the safe route and use a spoon to put it there.

If you have a drop or two left of your espresso can add it now to finish it all off with that artisanal stain.

Since you’re making a macchiato at home, you can always add an extra bit of flavor using a syrup of your choice. That means you get to make an iced caramel macchiato right at home.

We recommend between one and two teaspoons of syrup for an ideal flavor profile. For a vegan alternative, you can always use coconut milk and make it a coconut caramel macchiato with ice.

However, for those looking for a subtle caramel taste with their macchiato without using syrup, we recommend using our Caramel Macchiato coffee beans. We offer a healthy alternative to sugary syrups by cutting out all the unnecessary sugars and calories and providing you with a quick and easy drink.

For those with a love for all things chocolate, why not make it an iced chocolate macchiato? That’s right, and for the best of both worlds, we recommend using a coffee that perfectly combines these two flavors.
