Enjoy 8 Tasty, Fun, And Spooky Coffee Cocktails

1- I Ain' t Sayin’ She’s A Grave Digger…

Punny’ song titles aside, our first coffee cocktail in this spooky collection comes with an eerie backstory, a tale steeped in mystery and intrigue…

Legend has it that various coffee lovers who’ve gone on before us reach a handout from their grave once a year, breaking their eternal slumber on Halloween night for one more sip of their most beloved brews.

Some break their slumber for dark roast or espresso, others for cold brew, their selections only evident to gravediggers, those who tend the yards in the wee morning hours after Halloween night finding leftover grounds, traces of cold foam, and chipped mugs.

A few gravediggers have since confessed that a couple of sips of this cocktail bring a sense of calm to their frenzied nerves upon seeing these sights.

So then, should your Halloween festivities leave you frightened, perhaps this gravedigger’s brew is precisely the remedy you need… **Please exercise caution if consuming near a cemetery on Halloween night.

Ingredients

  • 1 ounce freshly brewed Lifeboost Espresso Coffee
  • 1 ½ ounces vanilla infused brandy (see note below)
  • ¾ ounce coffee liqueur
  • ½ ounce Grand Marnier
  • ½ cup heavy whipping cream
  • 2 teaspoons powdered sugar
  • Crushed Oreo cookies

Instructions

  • Add heavy cream and powdered sugar to a chilled bowl and beat with a hand mixer until soft peaks form, then set aside. (Watch carefully, as you don’t want this to get too stiff. For reference: You’ll be using this as a topping for your cocktail, layering some crushed Oreos on half of the surface of the cream. So, you’ll want the cream to transform from a liquid to a more firm substance, but you won’t be making a true whipped cream here either.)
  • Add espresso, brandy, coffee liqueur, and Grand Marnier to a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake until well chilled, then strain into a stemmed cocktail glass.
  • Top with whipped cream, then garnish one side of the cream with crushed Oreos (to give the illusion of freshly moved dirt/earth. Enjoy…if you dare!

*To make vanilla infused brandy, cut two fresh vanilla pods lengthwise and place into a 750 ml bottle of brandy. Let sit for 3-5 days, shaking occasionally. Strain out the pods after the recommended time (again, 3-5 days), and store until ready to use.

2- Drunken Pumpkins

When pumpkin heads come rolling,
Be it Ichabod or another,
May these shots deliver courage,
As spooky spirits bother.

A special feature from our book,
Filled with coffee cocktails galore,
Just be sure to leave some shots behind,
For the headless horsemen four…

Ingredients (makes 8 shots)

  • 8 ounces cold brewed Lifeboost Pumpkin Spice Coffee
  • 2 ounces Rumchata
  • 4 ounces Bailey’s Irish Cream liqueur
  • 2 ounces cinnamon whiskey

Instructions

  • Add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker with ice.
  • Shake vigorously, then divide between 8 shot glasses. Enjoy!

*This recipe is from our coffee cocktails eBook, as referenced in my attempt at a poem above. 3- Black Flame Candle Blowout

Hocus Pocus fans, you know the words… So, before we prepare this black flame brew, recite them with me -

“...the magic that brought us back only works tonight on All Hallow’s Eve.

When the sun comes up we’re dust!

Dust? Dust? Toast! Toast!

Fortunately, the potion I brewed the night we were hanged would keep us alive and young forever!

Unfortunately, the recipe for that potion is in my spellbook…”

Ahh ha ha, Lifeboosters…we’re now the ones with the Sanderson sisters’ spellbook, and while this black flame brew may not bring the sisters back, it just might aid in your Halloween adventures!

“Come, we fly!

Ingredients

  • 2 ounces cold brewed Lifeboost Pumpkin Spice Coffee
  • ½ ounce cinnamon simple syrup (see recipe below)
  • 2 ounces vodka
  • 1 ounce coffee liqueur
  • Cinnamon ‘broomstick’ for garnish
  • Ice

Instructions

  • Add cold brew, vodka, cinnamon syrup, and coffee liqueur to a cocktail shaker with ice, and shake vigorously until the outside of the cocktail shaker is frosty.
  • Strain into a cocktail glass, then garnish with a cinnamon stick (aka broomstick). Enjoy!

Homemade Cinnamon Simple Syrup

  • ¾ cup cane sugar
  • 1 cup filtered water
  • 2-3 cinnamon sticks (depending on how strong of a cinnamon flavor you’d like)

Add water and cinnamon sticks to a small saucepan and bring to a boil over medium-high heat.

Once boiling, reduce heat to a simmer, and cook for 10 minutes.

After 10 minutes, remove the cinnamon sticks and add the sugar to the hot liquid.

Stir until the sugar is fully dissolved.

Remove from heat and allow the mixture to cool. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.

4- Witches Brew

Double, double, toil and trouble,
Fire burn and cauldron bubble,”

Shots of vodka, liqueur, and brew,
In the caldron just for you,

No newts or toes of frogs tonight,
Just milk and matcha for this fright!

Double, double, toil and trouble,
Fire burn and cauldron bubble,”

Cool this with the shaker’s ice,
Then its charm is doubly nice.

Sip in a glass or as a shot,
But, beware of trouble wrought!

Ingredients

  • 1-ounce Lifeboost Espresso Coffee, chilled
  • 1 ounce vodka
  • 1 ounce Kahlua
  • 1 ounce milk
  • 1-ounce matcha (prepared)
  • Extra matcha powder for garnish

Instructions

  • Add ½ teaspoon of matcha to 1-ounce hot water, whisking to combine. Allow to cool slightly before adding to the prepared cocktail.
  • While the matcha is cooling, add vodka, Kahlua, espresso, and milk to a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake vigorously until chilled, then strain into a cocktail glass (a coupe or martini glass is recommended).
  • Top the prepared cocktail with the cooled matcha shot, then dust with a small amount of matcha powder for garnish. (This simply gives the drink a slightly more ghoulish appearance.) Enjoy!

5- The Raven

When the tricks and treats have ended,
There’s no more rapping at your door,
And, your thoughts drift inward,
To Halloween’s unforgotten lore.
Tales of ghosts and ghouls ‘a haunting,
Sleep alludes, the darkness daunting,
You deeply wish for the rapping from before,
The whimsied childish costumes worn.

But this, this silence is unnerving,
So, a deep dark latte I’ll be serving,
And, with widened eyes I’ll pace the floor,
Sipping, sipping, more and more,

Hoping to slumber, never,
Remaining vigilant forever,
Warding spirits from my door,
Sipping, sipping, forevermore…

**Be sure to check out the cocktail option under the recipe for those looking for a deeply dark, but boozy, drink.

Ingredients

  • 1-2 ounces Lifeboost Espresso Coffee, freshly brewed
  • ½ teaspoon activated charcoal powder
  • 1 tablespoon raw honey
  • 1 teaspoon hot water
  • ½ cup steamed milk

Instructions

  • Add activated charcoal powder, honey, and a teaspoon of hot water to a glass and stir until the charcoal powder is fully combined.
  • Add 1-2 shots of espresso to the charcoal-honey mixture, stirring to combine.
  • Steam ½ cup of milk with the wand on your espresso machine or add milk to an electric frother and froth on the heated setting.
  • Add the steamed (or frothed) milk to the espresso-charcoal mixture and stir slightly so the dark, black color fully incorporates into the milk (for appearance only). Enjoy!

**Most advise against consuming activated charcoal and alcohol together in one drink as the combination of activated charcoal and alcohol may induce vomiting (the charcoal binds to the alcohol, and for some, this could prompt the body to “get rid of” the alcohol).

Minus the addition of alcohol, activated charcoal can bring detoxifying effects to the body. And, when used in this drink it definitely brings those spooky Halloween vibes, thus our reason for including it in this list, even though it’s not a cocktail.

However, if you’d still like a deeply dark and boozy, activated charcoal free, option for your Halloween celebrations, simply omit the charcoal powder, and add roughly 1 ½ ounces of dark rum in its place.

You’ll make the recipe exactly as listed above, but instead of incorporating the powder into the honey in the first step, you’ll simply add the espresso, honey, and rum, stirring to combine.

Then, top this mixture with the steamed or heated and frothed milk and give it a little stir prior to sipping. Enjoy!

6- Casper’s Coffee

Nobody puts Baby in a corner, and nobody messes with Casper’s coffee.

Most folks know Casper as a friendly ghost - the kind you certainly don’t mind having around the house for a few extra thrills near Halloween.

But, what many people don’t realize is that Casper is only chill when he’s had his coffee.

His preferred brew is a white chocolate mocha, but on Halloween he turns things up a notch, adding a bit of booze to his brew.

So, if you’re not necessarily down for a fright on Halloween night, then experts advise making a double batch of this boo-themed brew, one for you and one for any friendly ghouls hanging around your home.

Ingredients

  • 3 ounces freshly brewed Lifeboost Medium Roast Coffee
  • 1-ounce white chocolate liqueur
  • 1-ounce vanilla vodka
  • 2 teaspoons white chocolate sauce
  • ½ cup steamed milk
  • Marshmallow ghosts, optional for garnish

Instructions

  • Add freshly brewed coffee, white chocolate liqueur, vanilla vodka, and white chocolate sauce to a large mug, stirring to combine.
  • Add milk to an electric frother and froth on the heated setting.
  • Pour frothed milk over the mixture in your mug, then garnish with a few marshmallow ghosts, if desired. Enjoy!

7- Red Rum Runner

All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy

And, if you’d like to avoid setting Jack off on a cold, dark, and dreary Halloween night, we’d advise inviting him to your bash to blow off some steam.

So, hide your axes, and bring out your punch bowls instead, because Jack’s coming to your bash with a thirst for coffee.

It’s the only brew that keeps his…madness…from surfacing.

Just a tip - plan to drink plenty of this caffeinated punch yourself. It’ll provide you with ample fuel should you need to, well, RUN!

Ingredients

  • 6 cups cold brewed Lifeboost Dark Roast Coffee (you can sub this for our Decaf Dark Roast if you’d like)
  • 2 cups dark rum
  • 1 ½ cups pure maple syrup
  • 2 cups half and half
  • 1-2 pints ice cream

**Coffee flavored, vanilla, or even pumpkin ice cream would work well in this punch - your choice!

Instructions

  • Add cold brew and maple syrup to a large pitcher or punch bowl, stirring until the maple syrup is fully incorporated.
  • Add rum and half and half, stirring again to combine.
  • Keep refrigerated until ready to serve.
  • When serving, add several scoops of ice cream to the punch, then stir to allow the flavors to incorporate. Enjoy!

8- Dracula’s Delight

Strong face,
crooked nose,
He dwells in the darkness,
The worst of foes.

Black of hair,
Skin so pale,
Pointed ears,
And taloned nails.

What doth drip,
From sharpened teeth,
‘Tis it blood,
Or something sweet?

His anger swells,
Seething, stewing,
Does he search for you,
Or, that which is brewing?

Is it life he seeks,
Or something more,
Perhaps the Count,
Wants only a pour…

Ingredients

  • 2 ounces cold brewed Lifeboost Dark Roast Coffee
  • 1-ounce white rum
  • ½ ounce coconut rum
  • ½ ounce Kahlua
  • ¼ cup milk
  • 1-2 tablespoons sweetened condensed milk
  • Pomegranate drizzle (see recipe below), for garnish

Instructions

  • Add cold brew, white rum, coconut milk, Kahlua, milk, and sweetened condensed milk to a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake vigorously
  • Drizzle pomegranate sauce on the inside of a martini glass, then strain the cocktail into the glass.
  • Top with extra pomegranate drizzle and enjoy!

Pomegranate Sauce

  • ½ cup cane sugar
  • ½ cup pomegranate juice

Add pomegranate juice and sugar to a small saucepan and heat over high heat, bringing to a boil (stirring continuously to avoid burning or bubbling over).

Once boiling, reduce heat to medium and simmer for about 8-10 minutes, until thickened.
Set aside to cool prior to using.

Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to two weeks. (This makes enough sauce for roughly 8 cocktails.)
